Eight-year-old Nelly goes with her parents to clear out the house of her beloved grandmother, who has just died. She rummages through her mother Marion's old toys and books, curious about her childhood. But Marion doesn't want to face up to the past and leaves her husband and daughter behind. While her father works on the house, Nelly wanders through the woods. There she meets a girl who looks like her. Her name is Marion. The two quickly develop an intimate friendship and soon share a mystical secret that connects them in a wonderful way.
